The Fort Walton Beach Public Library is developing an online cookbook and we want your recipes! What better way to celebrate Julia Child and other authors who dish out recipes, but by creating our own cookbook based on recipes from our library patrons. Not only will this be our first cookbook, it will be a Green Project, which means it will be available only on our website and you can print out the recipes you want to use. Great recipes and we help by using less paper! If you would like more information, please contact Jennifer Kepple at 833-9590. Publication is set for December 2009. We hope you can contribute to this fun project.
We are also hosting a Holiday Cookie and Goodie Swap in the library meeting room on Wednesday, December 9 at 11 a.m. Participants are asked to bring five dozen of their best homemade cookies to share plus the recipe and extra containers to bring home cookies. We will discuss the history of cookies and baking in the U.S and learn some tips from some of the more experienced bakers in the crowd! Registration is required by Thursday, December 3 for this free program. The number of cookies may be changed depending on the number of people registered. Call the library at (850) 833-9590 ext. 227 to register.

New Year - New Books!
Okay, okay - I know it isn't 2010 yet, but here at the City, we begin each fiscal year on October 1. This means the budget is full and we are ordered (very nicely though) to fill the library with news items, such as books and DVD's. So for the last month, we have ordered over 200 new books and 70 new DVD's. Our shelves are brimming with your favorite authors plus some new names. And if you need assistance finding something to read or watch, just ask one of the library staff to help - we can make some suggestions!
See you at the library!

The Florida Electronic Library
It's that time of year again - Science Fair projects! We have been busy assisting students and parents with research and we wanted to pass along information about the Florida Electronic Library or FEL. The FEL is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services.
Anyone with a Florida Library card can access over 50 different resources in Current Events, Health, Florida History and more! Students have access to full text articles from newspapers and magazines.
So if you are stuck in a research funk, check out the FEL. Also, if you have questions about conducting research, stop by and talk to your reference librarian. They can get you started!
